If you’ve ever dreamed of combining travel with meaningful work, volunteering at Second Chance Dog Shelter in Pattaya, Thailand, is the perfect opportunity. Transforming Lives – For Dogs and People
Volunteering with dogs goes beyond simply walking or feeding them. At Second Chance Dog Shelter, the focus is on training dogs in obedience, agility, and behavior modification. These activities enrich the dogs’ lives, reduce stress, and increase their chances of finding a loving forever home.
For the volunteers, this experience is equally transformative. The hands-on dog trainer courses provide an opportunity to develop a range of skills, from understanding canine behavior to effective training techniques. Many participants leave with newfound confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and memories that last a lifetime.

Helping Dogs Become More Adoptable
One of the biggest challenges for dog shelters in Thailand is finding homes for rescue dogs. Many of these dogs come from difficult circumstances, such as being abandoned or living on the streets. When they first arrive at the shelter, they may be shy, anxious, or untrained.
The dog trainer courses offered at Second Chance help turn these dogs’ lives around. Volunteers learn to teach basic obedience commands, like “sit,” “stay,” and “come,” as well as agility skills that showcase the dogs’ potential. Training not only builds trust between humans and dogs but also helps the dogs gain confidence.
Potential adopters are far more likely to welcome a well-trained, socialized dog into their home. By volunteering, you play a crucial role in preparing these dogs for their next chapter—a loving forever home.

Enrichment For The Dogs
Training isn’t just about making dogs adoptable; it’s also about improving their quality of life while they’re in the shelter. The activities provided by volunteers keep the dogs mentally and physically stimulated.
For example:
• Obedience Training: Builds trust and communication.
• Agility Exercises: Provide an outlet for pent-up energy.
• Behavior Modification: Helps shy or reactive dogs learn to interact calmly.
These enrichment activities reduce stress, prevent boredom, and make life at the shelter more enjoyable for the dogs.
How Course Fees Support The Shelter
Presently Second Chance relies on donations, but our goal is to have a sustainable model. The fees from the dog trainer courses help fund the shelter’s operations, including food, medical care, and facility maintenance.
By participating, volunteers aren’t just helping the dogs directly—they’re also ensuring the shelter can continue its vital work. This self-funding approach reduces reliance on outside aid and allows the shelter to focus on what matters most: the well-being of the dogs.

Building Skills That Last A Lifetime
One of the standout aspects of the Second Chance program is its focus on teaching dog training skills. Whether you’re considering a career in animal care or simply want to strengthen your bond with your own pets, these courses are incredibly valuable.
You’ll learn:
• Techniques for training dogs in obedience and agility.
• How to handle dogs with behavioral challenges.
• Ways to assess and improve a dog’s adoptability.
These skills can open doors to new opportunities, from working at shelters to becoming a professional dog trainer.
Making Connections & Memories
Volunteering at Second Chance isn’t just about the dogs—it’s also about the people. Participants come from all over the world, united by their love of animals and desire to make a difference.
The friendships formed during this program often last long after the volunteering ends. Sharing the experience of helping dogs recover, grow, and find homes creates a bond like no other.

Hi All
Just seen Dan About Thailand ditty on Facebook. I’ve been in Jomtien for 7 months now, retired. I think I could give two or three days a week to help out at the centre, with a view of maybe becoming a trainer. I’d be happy to just help out with cleaning, feeding and walking the dogs. If you think I could be useful you, please let me know.
Rob
Hi Robert we would love to have you. Can you send an email with a phone number so I can pass it on to Adrian to call you. If you are interested in the trainers course the next ones start in January
