Volunteer at a Dog Shelter in Thailand

Volunteering opportunities at dog shelters in Thailand are fairly abundant.  That said they for the most part all offer the same things just in different places. Possibly a case of ‘If it isn’t broken don’t fix it’ or maybe a lack of imagination.  Here at Second Chance Dog Shelter in Pattaya we have come up with something entirely new. Yes we want the volunteers to help with the dogs, but we are looking to do it in a new way.  Our volunteer courses are run by professional dog trainers, they have trained Police K9 teams, Military k9 teams, they have worked on dog training shows seen on National Geographic as well as training literally thousands of pet dogs and shelter dogs. Together our volunteers learn to train our dogs, together they learn dog obedience , dog agility and how to use both to help with dog behaviour problems. After volunteering at our dog shelter the volunteers don’t just return home with great memories and new friends , they return home with a greater knowledge and understanding of dogs. The volunteers hopefully leave wanting to learn more about dog training, maybe they will come back and do our certified dog trainers course in 2025. The volunteer courses are fun and educational, but for our shelter dogs they are life changing too. When they are trained it is much easier to find homes for them, the training classes are a breath of fresh air to them, and genuinely enrich their lives. The fun activities the dogs and volunteers do together like going to the beach and swimming or riding a surfboard as well as being fun, they are great opportunities for socialisation. Volunteering at a dog shelter in Thailand doesn’t need to mean cleaning out kennels and walking lots of dogs ( though that is great too ) , it can now mean you learn new skills and become advocates for rescue dogs in Thailand. We want our volunteers to benefit as much as the dogs , so when they return to their home countries they can continue working and helping dogs in rescues and shelters.
